The erstwhile Kitchener house has been currently renamed to its current name, as part of Indianization of British name.
After the construction of the new fort William in 1781, the triangular three storied building was later summed up during the period of Lord Dalhousie (between 1848-1856)
The building, constructed in the 1780s, was initially intended to serve as an Ammunition dump for the British Army. After India's Independence in 1947, the building was handed over to the Indian Army, where it served multiple roles before being converted in' museum.
Command Library is housed in the 200 year old St. Peters’ Anglican Church in the gothic style. It is one of the oldest churches in Kolkata and was used by the British Army during the 18th to the 20th centuries.

Fort William was British India’s military headquarters until the capital was transferred to Delhi. There was a building inside the fort which was as late as the early 20th century went by the name of the government house.
